            Historical background of Odessa Opera Theater:
One of the greatest architectural monuments of Ukraine and one of the most beautiful theaters in the world "Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater" was founded on the 10 th of February of 1810 when the first performance took place in it. Odessa Opera Theater was designed by the St. Petersburg architect Thomas de Thomon. This first theater was in almost same place as today's Odessa theater. In 1873 the theater was destroyed by fire.

The project for second Theater was given to Vienna architects Fellner and Helmer, the new Odessa Theater was made in Austrian baroque style as the Grand Opera Theater in Vienna, and opened to public in 1887.

The Italian baroque facade, the entrance in Renaissance style is decorated by statues of Aristophanes and Euripides, the sculptural group on top of facade is headed by the muse Melpomena, the patroness of Art. The hall is the most interesting part in Odessa Opera Theater. Its architecture is preserved in style French rococo. With its unique acoustics you can feel a small whisper from the stage in any part of the hall.
